Best Travel Tips

By Abel Smith at 2011-01-22 00:01:12
It all begins with the airfare. Can you afford to fly to your next holiday destination? Well, it depends. How flexible are you? Savvy travelers are those that do not travel in the height of any season or can wait a week or two in order to find the best fares. You've probably heard this before, but it really does pay off to have a bit of leeway to when exactly you can jet off.

It is also wise to start your search about 3 months in advance. Yes. Don't wait until a month before to start looking for flights. Of course, you can't always be so well prepared. But if you have been wanting to go to Hawaii for years and finally decide this is the year, then it's smart to start your search well ahead of time.

Don't pay in US currency: One of the biggest mistakes that travelers often do is try to pay in US currency. Pretty much everywhere in Southeast Asia accepts US Dollars, but the conversion rate offered by merchants is terrible. A lot of times, you can end up paying 30% more than you would have if you used the local currency. For the best rates, try to exchange some money before you leave. You can also exchange money at most major banks in South East Asia.

One of the biggest expenses when you travel is eating out. One way to make vacation more affordable is to rent a room that has a kitchenette and mini fridge. This way, you can stock up on essentials and won't be forced to go out to eat three times a day. With a kitchenette, you can also prepare sack lunches to take with you during the day. By reducing the amount of money you spend on food, you will take away a good portion of your travel costs.

While you are at your hotel, be sure to avoid extra charges for items in the mini bar, room service, telephone use, and other amenities that are not included in the price of your room. If you are trying to stick to your budget, ordering room service is a great way to get you off track! When you book your room, make sure that you know of any additional charges up front. Some hotel booking websites will try to hide fees, so it's up to you to do your research and make sure you are really getting a good deal.

Use your common sense. If you are on a tight budget, do not succumb to the temptation of buying that "must have" pair of shoes and do not go crazy with souvenir buying either. A nice practical souvenir that you can use when you are back home is much better then some tacky souvenir that you are just going to put in a drawer and never use.

Sit at a revolving conveyor belt and eat to your hearts content. Notice that there are normally 4 or 5 different colours of plate. The reason is that each colour is a different price. Check how much they are and pick the ones that match your budget. Keep each plate after eating and then add them up for your bill.

Find some more beach vacations at things to do in mobile and national parks around the world.
