Places To Visit In Vancouver

By Abel Smith at 2010-12-29 00:51:58
Qualicum Beach captured our attention when we were there. Strolling along the seaside promenade we had views of Lasqueti and Texada Islands and the snowcapped peaks of mountains on the mainland in the distance. Qualicum has a strong belief in heritage preservation and their antique shops, galleries and the museum are definitely worth a stop.

Campbell River, another seaside town, is known as Canada's Salmon Fishing Capital. On a visit to the Marina, this came as no surprise; from the pier we saw masses of masts. Campbell River is also acknowledged as one of the top five scuba diving destinations in the world because of its exceptional under-water visibility, diversity of sea life and wreck sites.

Capilano Suspension Bridge : If you are an adventurer at heart, then you really should stop by and walk through the Capilano Suspension Bridge for some serious, heart-stopping moments. Peering down would yield a rushing river a few hundred feet below your own feet, which definitely puts a small lump down your throat. The scenery itself is breathtaking, which should prove to be a great distraction until you bring your gaze downward.

Gastown : Gastown is where it all started, and holds a significant cultural value for the whole of Canada, with coffee shops, eateries and nightclubs existing to meet the needs of the tourist. The famous Gastown steamclock, which 'whistles' the time every fifteen minutes, is a particularly interesting sight to see.

There are also numerous cheap hotels around the airport area. The Vancouver International Airport is located in an area where there is a large Asian population, and as such, numerous establishments like dining areas and hotels cater largely to Asians. However it should be worthy to underline that the airport is about 30 minutes away from the downtown city proper. Tourists who are on a budget may find it costly to travel to and from the Vancouver city proper every now and then.

Those who want to be closer to the downtown area also have inexpensive hotels to choose from especially along Kingsway Street located in the eastern part of the city. Top choices include Howard Johnson Plaza, Cassandra, Biltmore, Best Western Kings Inn, Comfort Inn Kingsway, Ramada Hotel and Suites, Days Inn Vancouver Metro, Eldorado Motor Hotel, 2400 Motel, Palms Motel, London Guard Motor Inn, and Ramada Kingsway.

Perhaps every country has a Chinatown, and Canada is no exception to that rule. Established in the late 1800s, Vancouver's Chinatown is now home to quite a number of Asian families who tend to their stores, and manage restaurants that have become popular with the local population.

If you are not in the mood for the gastronomical delights offered in Chinatown, you may opt to embark in an architectural sightseeing adventure. Buildings in Chinatown still preserve the architectural features of its original Chinese inhabitants, and these are worth a second glance.

You may also want to pay a visit to the Dr. Sun Yat Sen Classical Gardens. Just like its Chinese counterpart, not only does it calm you down, it is also a very beautiful place. Your camera will be extremely happy.
