Mui Wo beach is a 10 minutes walk from the ferry terminal, walking besides the coast passing a number of restaurants and cafes also gift shops for those last minute purchases like, beach balls, and other beach equipment. The walk from the terminal gets you in the mood because the beach is in view and it is a very pleasant walk. The beach itself is well equipped with all the facilities that you will need. There are well equipped changing rooms with inside and outside showers, toilets for both male and female.

Mui Wo is the main area for the ferry and bus terminus or Tung Chung for the MTR and buses. Word of warning Lantau island is covered by the drivers permit regulations and you can only drive in the retracted area if you hold a permit. This is why Lantau is so good not many vehicles in the area. Mui Wo has one of the best beaches in the hole of Hong Kong and along with the beaches at, Tong Fuk, Pui O and both beaches at Cheung Sha north and south this island can boast the best in beaches. Every beach is cleaned every day they all have facilities like, showers, changing rooms toilets and life guards on duty, plus there is some sort of shopping at each beach.

The towns have something for every one, Tung Chung has large shopping malls with top named stores, restaurants, cinema and cafes of all description Markets as well as indoor and outdoor, plus it is the home of the Ngong Ping 360 Cable car. This town is clean and the MTR station along with the bus station are in the center very close to all the shopping and restaurants.

Money earned by the monastery was by having a farm where they used to milk cows to give the now famous Trappist milk, which is sold all over the island. Unfortunately the monks because of there age don't farm the land or mike the cows anymore, they handed that over to a private firm of which they have a percentage, because the milk is still obtainable today. Monastic life will be introduced to all visitors if they so wish. The chinese abbot who runs the abbey has said anyone is welcome to come and talk or even stay the night.

Mui Wo has a good number of shops ranging from store(food), electrical to gift shops plus a lot more besides, and of course Mui Wo has a mcdonald. There are also many estate agents offering lease or purchase within the Lantau area. Plus there are restaurants and cafes in the town and on the way to silvermine beach. Within the district of Mui Wo there are large map boards detailing local places of interest and of course directions to to each of these locations.

There is a flat and easy bike trail from Tai Wai to Tai Po. Bikes are cheap and easy to rent (around 6-8 dollars for the day), and you can hire them from one end and return them at the other. Although you are riding through some built-ups areas including the Hong Kong Science Park, as you are close to the river and as there are dozens of smaller bike trails leading off the main trail, it still feels like a refreshing and relaxing day out.
